Can-Do from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, although I'm almost too late to say "good morning." We were up and out early to do some running around. Mike and I left in separate cars, but met up at the McDonald's in town for our beloved Egg McMuffins. Then, he had a doctor's appointment (nothing serious), and I did a short grocery shopping trip to pick up the items I'd need for pasta sauce. After that, I headed to the farmers' to pick up 40 lbs. of beautiful Roma tomatoes. You're going to make a lovely pasta sauce, my ...

More Planning from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's a new week. Are you feeling refreshed? We had a quiet but busy week last week. We were both feeling a little rickety last night. Aside from the usual household chores and sewing, I pulled a bucket of weeds. That means lots of sitting down and getting up again, which is at least as tiring as the task itself. Mike kindly installed drip irrigation for the dahlias and the hanging petunia baskets. It occurred to me that someone would need to be around to water the dahlias when we leave on our September trip ...

Beebopareebop...Rhubarb Upside-down Cake from ... Cat Patches

There was plenty accomplished yesterday, but nothing at the sewing machine. The only sewing I accomplished consisted of slow-stitching the name and place for the latest Shop Hop quilt. This one is from our visit to Sedona a couple of years ago, when we stopped off in nearby Cottonwood to see Quilter's Corners and Bernina Too. Sadie stitched along with me.

With several interruptions, I had it finished by day's end.

Earlier in the morning, I'd visited the Beaverton farmers market with Erik and Mae. I scored most everything I wanted, but no carrots, and they were ...

Fun with Food and Family from ... Cat Patches

It was a busy day yesterday with plenty on the agenda. As much fun as it was, I'm looking forward to a quiet day at home today. The rain has gone for the day, at least. I want to get out and fill the birdfeeders and then just bask in the sunshine for a bit. It's chilly, so the "basking" will be short-lived.

My day started with slow stitching. I was able to finish off the quilt block on the barn, and I stitched a little more of the barn. Today I'll focus on the tree and ...

My Day in Pasta Sauce from Cat Patches

Yesterday I spent the whole live-long day in the kitchen. I was a tired pup when I was finished. Usually, I spread the pasta sauce over two days, but I did all of it yesterday. It made for a lot of time on my feet. When I was finished, I had nine quarts of deliciousness.

A few years ago, I learned a way to make this job easier. I used to score, blanch, and skin the tomatoes. Then, somehow, I got the idea to roast them instead. I put them in a convection oven set to 425°F and roast ...

Produce Production from Cat Patches

The day didn't go exactly as planned yesterday, but it was so nice to take another day off from canning. As I mentioned, Mike and I made a trip into town. We first stopped off at Working Hands Farm to pick up 40 pounds of tomatoes. They grow the most beautiful tomatoes. Here's one box of 20 pounds. And there's another just like it.

Also, I've harvested about two dozen from our own plants. Our own plants are producing fast and furious now.

The tomatoes are going to get turned into pasta sauce and salsa, and ...

Snowflakes in August from Cat Patches

There isn't much to say about yesterday. It was a driving around and grocery shopping day. It was 2:00 p.m. by the time I got home. I had some lunch, and then took a cue from Sadie. The two of us had a nice afternoon nap together.

So, I didn't make my way into the sewing room until nearly 3:30. Despite limited time, the background for my challenge piece is put together. Recall the prompt for this challenge is "The Sea." I'll be doing some top-stitching on it today, and then adding the main ...

Good Quilting Karma from Cat Patches

It was a full day of quilting, and I had a lot of help from my kitty friends. There was a break after every go-round of the quilt, and so I would estimate that quilting and breaks were about equal in time. Kitties are excellent timers in this regard. When they demand treats, it's a good time for a break.

Breaking for treats has the added benefit of gratifying them enough to get them off my work space for a while. Kitties and free motion quilting are not a good mix.

Smitty was purrterbed when I made him get ...

Busy Day from ... Cat Patches

There was no time for quilting yesterday. There might have been time had I not fallen down on the couch, not to get up again until I'd taken a good long nap. Being out and about is exhausting, especially at this time of the year. I got my hair cut and colored. Then I filled my gas tank and headed for the grocery store. While there, I scored this year's Christmas tree. You might remember our tree from last year. We didn't win the award for the Charlie Browniest tree ever (point of clarification...there is no ...

Block Party from ... Cat Patches

Yesterday's sewing day consisted of sewing together block after block of the Mulligan Stew quilt. This was all done under the watchful and faithful catsultation with the Catmittee on Quilt Construction. Smitty is the Chairpurrson of the Catmittee.

Sadie is only one member of the Catmittee. Pink Mouse also has an impurrtant part in the decision-making purrocess.

After lengthy catsultation, I was able to continue assembling the blocks for the center of the quilt. I took a break to fill the bird feeders when I had it this far.

By day's end, the entire quilt center was complete ...
